HENRY, Matthew, Sylvester Hassell Matthew Henry (1662-1714), an English Non-conformist minister, preached through the whole Bible, in expository sermons, more than once; and his Exposition of the Bible, though not scientific or critical, is said to be still the most practical, devotional and spiritual of all English commentaries. George Whitefield read it through four times, the last time on his knees. Matthew Henry’s dying language was: “A life spent in the service of God, and communion with him, is the most pleasant life that any one can live in this world.” (Hassell’s History ppg 547, 548)
