Daniel Webster: In my opinion the imposition of such obligations as Freemasonry requires should be prohibited by law.
D. L. Moody: I do not see how any Christian, most of all a Christian minister, can go into these secret lodges with unbelievers…..Do no evil that good may come. You can never reform anything by unequally yoking yourself with ungodly men.
Wendell Phillips: Secret societies are not needed for any good purpose, and may be used for any bad purpose whatsoever. In my opinion such societies should be prohibited by law.
