EVIDENCE
Elder Z. Stallings
The gospel tells poor sinners that “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God,” thus giving him the historical proof or evidence that he is a sinner; but when God by His Spirit quickens the poor sinner, He in that act reveals to him that he is a poor lost sinner. That sinner then has evidence, not of a historical nature, but from the light of God’s Holy Spirit shining into his heart, he can see the awful and exceeding sinfulness of his own sins. He therefore has a living and abiding belief that he is a guilty and condemned sinner in the sight of a just and holy God. Then His prayer is, “God have mercy on me a sinner” – the noblest prayer that ever ascended to the throne of God. [from Primitive Baptist Doctrine, 1934] Submitted by Elder Mark Green
